On my Gateway Windows 8 laptop a messaging keeps popping up that says "your computer memory is low" WHY DOES IT KEEP DOING THIS && HOW CAN I STOP IT

thomaster (thomaster):

I would have posted this in computer science.. Press win+R (win= windows key on your keyboard) An execute box will appear, type msinfo32 and press enter. Compare the total physical memory with the available physical memory. If the available memory is very low, right-click on your taskbar and select task manager. Look how much memory each progamm is using in the process tab.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Or you can right click the task bar and select "Task Manager" and since you are running windows 8 look for the Processes tab then click on the "Memory" tab and it will show the products using up most memory, also many times your web browser is a memory hog (especially Firefox) so try to limit the amount of tabs you have open and the amount of active plugins and extensions as these all lower your memory. Btw do you know how much memory you have? If it is lower than 3gb for a W8 PC you are going to need an upgrade, since windows 8 is a very Colorful and aesthetic design it uses a lot of ram and 3gb is old anyways, mine is also windows 8 but with 8gb ram and it works like a charm (as of now it uses 3gb of the 8gb) Please post your results Regards ~ JA1

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Wow. People beat me to it.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Me and IT go together like peanut butter and jelly C:

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

BTW @JA1 Windows 8 takes less power and ram.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Yes it does, but not if you start to add all it's little designs and what not xD

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

@JA1 *cough* I doubt that the simple customization that Windows 8 offers would significantly change the memory.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Its got extremely low system requirements btw. It can resurrect really old computers. Kinda like Ubuntu.

OpenStudy (ja1):

I never really checked out the requirements, I am still on windows 7 knowledge xD I have to start poking around it to see, but what I mean is the fact that w8 has many different processes open (If you use all it's features) so it impacts it greatly, but not as much though (I have 8gb and it uses 2.5, not 3 i messed up lol)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Your pretty knowledgable about computers, just noting.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

*You're

OpenStudy (ja1):

Not really :/ I mean I am good with computers themselves (hardware, software, troubleshooting, etc) but as far as in depth goes (coding) I am still learning.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

I met you on this site when you had offered an amazing proxy-prevention script, similar to the one I had provided except in .htaccess.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Ye but that's not really coding itself, although if you ask me anything about troubleshooting I am very good, also I am excellent with hardware, I can disassemble and PC or Laptop and assemble it back within minutes (with a record low of 2 screws left over xD)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

.htaccess is sort of like a basic language. :p

OpenStudy (ja1):

Yes and so is HTML and CSS but in regards to Java, JavaScript, Python, Asembly, C#/C++, etc... I don't know.

OpenStudy (ja1):

In regards to object oriented programming I am no good..yet

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Oh okay :)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

I love PHP. CSS is amazing, actually my favorite, for purely the reason of design. And of course, HTML is the basics of the webpage. And I just use a lil' JavaScript AJAX to string them all together :)

OpenStudy (ja1):

I haven't learned PHP since I don't have need for it now. But you do since you have a website.

OpenStudy (ja1):

I despise AJAX

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Ooh! I smell stupidity!

OpenStudy (ja1):

My favorite one is Python

OpenStudy (ja1):

:P

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Just because OpenStudy overdid AJAX shouldn't be a traumatic experience for you. :p

OpenStudy (ja1):

Well besides the fact that is is a childhood trauma of mine, I just simply don't like to use it.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Without AJAX, Gmail would refresh the whole page every 5 seconds to get the newest email. Without AJAX, there would be no auto-save in Gmail.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Ok point taken, AJAX is important, but as minimal as possible.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

AJAX is just the dynamic side of JavaScript to load info.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

And you wouldn't believe what would happen to Facebook without it ;)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

RIP notifications.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

And that would also be RIP for chat... chat couldn't be live, you would have to refresh every few seconds.

OpenStudy (ja1):

xD ok ok I agree with you but it all depends on your site, I personally like how Python works, and for some reason lean towards it more.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Python is a server language like PHP. It can't do any of the capabilities that I've mentioned AJAX can do in JavaScript.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Yes it's a server-side language, basically the only client-side ones are Html/Css ajax, Javascript, etc..... But you can also use it for other things such as programs and even scripts (yes I know browsers don't support it) but you can use it out of browser and make it go into browser (bad wording lol)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Yeah. Its just like PHP, but with (arguably) better syntax.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

I get mad about the Computer Science topic BTW. 99% of questions are about freakin' C.

OpenStudy (ja1):

OMG IKR I noticed that too

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

I'm like thats not the only languages under the sun !

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Besides, I don't know it :P Just spare me, show a little Java?

OpenStudy (ja1):

C/c++ is arguably bloated just like JavaScript

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

And it gets even worse when a random guy needs help and then another random guy tells him that a guy named dumbsearch2 is a genius and tags me and goes away... and I come and its a C question :P

OpenStudy (ja1):

XD feel bad for you man, that's why I keep and sort of general knowledge about a topic a secret because then you become a genius, like me and history <_<

OpenStudy (ja1):

Every single history question has me in it (not really lol) and I am like "I don't know it all" gezuz

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Lets continue chat in PM. This has... escalated quickly :p

OpenStudy (ja1):

OMG I didn't realize this was her post 0_0 sorry @talyababyy lol

thomaster (thomaster):

*cough* why did they invented the chat? :P *cough*

OpenStudy (ja1):

xD it's too hard to move the mouse over there :3

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

@thomaster U mad bro?

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

uh huh, the only thing they talk about in chat is twerking.

OpenStudy (ja1):

^ lol

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

I'm serious. It's fairly retarded.

thomaster (thomaster):

Not in the computer science chat :P

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

but but but

OpenStudy (ja1):

¯\_ಠ_ಠ_/¯

OpenStudy (ja1):

/( .□.)\ ︵╰(゜益゜)╯︵ /(.□. /)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

*** END OF DISCUSSION ***

thomaster (thomaster):

Don't spam! Common forms of spam include: -Posting a reply that is not relevant to the topic of discussion within that question. (◔◡◔)

OpenStudy (ja1):

You ruined the "End of discussion" thom <_<

OpenStudy (ja1):

xD true but we got carried away :3 *END*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol its okay I forgot all about this post... I was annoyed so all I did was delete some stuff I iddnt need.. && my laptop is normal again,.. also it had to be shutdown
