A freight elevator weighing 2000lb and having dimensions 8ft X 8ft X 12ft hangs from a cable with a small clearance between vertical frictionless guides, G and G' as shown. The elevator is then moved upward at a constant velocity (a) show in a diagram the location and direction of the forces exerted by guides on the elevator.
