A parabola has a focus at (−3, 7) and a directrix of y = −1. Where is its vertex?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

halfway between the 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

halfway between what two?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, between the focus and the directrix of course

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be (3,4)?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|dw:1372883442801:dw|

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so we have the same x value, but the y value is midpoint between 7 and -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where does the directrix go in the picture, that is what confuses me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks, that makes so much more sense

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre welcome, swiss picture was refering to finding the vertex if you had known the roots .... which is not what was presented in the problem
