Factor this polynomial completely. 9y^2 - 25yz - 6^2

OpenStudy (souvik):

is it \[9y ^{2}-25yz-6z ^{2}\] ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it (9y+2z)(y-3z) ?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes! correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you!

OpenStudy (souvik):

right

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^

Another way,a liiiiitle longer. (Just showing another method).\[\large \color{red}9y^2-25yz-\color{red}6z^2\]Multiply these both. \[\large y^2 -25yz -54z^2\]Factor out.\[\large (y-27z)(y+2z)\] Now divide by leading coefficient from original problem, 9. \[\large (y-\cfrac{27z}{9})(y+\cfrac{2z}{9})\] Simplify what you can,and if it cannot simplify, multiply the denominator of the non simplified fraction to the variable.\[\large (y-3z)(9y+2z)\] Simplified form :)
