In ancient Rome, involvement in politics was an unpaid opportunity. Why, then, were some people able to get involved in politics? The wealthy had time to engage in politics, since they did not have to worry about money. One person from every family had to participate in politics, as required by law. It was socially unacceptable to stay out of the political process. Certain hours of the day were set aside for political issues and processes.
