Hi, I need help with this: What are the four steps for solving an equation? Should any other factors be accounted for when solving an equation? Should any factors be accounted for when explaining how to solve an equation? Explain your answer.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Step 1 : Simplify the equation by using the distributive property where applicable and combining like terms Step 2 : Collect all the variables on one side by either adding or subtracting. Step 3 : Using inverse operations for addition and subtraction can remove constants, to get the variables and constants on opposite sides Step 4 : Inverse operations, such as multiplying and dividing, can be used to eliminate coefficients in front of variables, to get the variables by themselves.
