OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does sec and cot mean and how do you work them

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

u must be knowing cos and tan already ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

sec = 1/cos cot = 1/tan

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

they're just the reciprocal functions of cos and tan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whenever i want to find sec or cot i just put 1/cos or 1/tan i the calvulator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

calculator

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

exactly ! calculator wont come with sec cot or cosec, so we need to use 1/cos, 1/tan or 1/sin for them

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

sec = 1/cos cot = 1/tan cosec = 1/sin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if the tan is tan 5/3 then the cot is 3/5

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

you got it !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

tan = opposite/adjacent

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

so, not surprisingly, cot = adjacent/opposite

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

similarly you can find ratios for other two also... have fun :)
