Can anyone help me to graph a quadratic function and state its domain and orange? Please include the steps to: y =│x-1│ + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

domain = x range = y so lets plus in values for x then solve then we will have our y aka (x,y) then graph that you should get a V shape as the graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First draw y = x-1, then on applying mod all the portion below x-axis gets reflected above. Then adding 2 will make the graph to move by 2 units in upward direction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there a website where I can plug in the values to create the graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1373060047754:dw| it should look like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. The visual makes it easier to understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@koushik_ksv Thanks for the expanded/better answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I write the steps to this equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hobbs978 Welcome.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How are the steps written?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well to find the first step of coordinates you can plus in values for x i.e x = 1\[y = | 1 - 1| + 2\] solve that then you have your (1,y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Somehow I got bumped off but I am back. So the function = f =│1-1│

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thene we add 2 to find the domain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you add 2 to find the range remember range is a fancy way of saying y value and domain is a fancy way of saying x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great point! I will remember that. My equations ask if there is a functions or intercept and if there are various points.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like y-intercept?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x-intercept?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought the questions is asking if there are more points on the graph to discuss.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nah your question looks like its wants to know your domain(x) and range(y) values you used to see if you graphed it correctly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great! I just did not want to leave anything out! You guys have been great and you both deserve medals! So I will give you the medal and fan Koushik!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its all good as long as you learn this :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL! I pray that I come out of my courses with something but I am very happy to meet the people in Open Study! You have all been really great. I am also going to fan you, it is nice to work with people that don't judge you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we all start at one point :) how we learn

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's all I'm saying! LOL! Thanks again!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good that you are enjoying your studies..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I cannot continue any longer, its 3.50 a.m here. Got to take some rest. I will answer your questions @Tuiti when i am online.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same i got to go eat :) msg me anytime you need help @Tuiti

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, my God Koushik,! get some sleep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hobbs and Koushik thanks a gain I am taking a lunch break!
