Using complete sentences, explain the difference between an exponential function and a geometric series.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

An exponential function would be something like \(\large f(x) = 2*3^x\) the domain here is x can be any real number

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

a geometric sequence or series would be something like \(\large a_{n} = 2*3^{n-1}\) the big difference here is that n is now the input variable and n is a natural number (ie a positive whole number)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so they are essentially the same thing, but the geometric sequence is a discrete sequence while an exponential function is continuous
