REmove the grouping symbol in each of the following and simplify. a.) 3x-(2x+3y) + 3(x-2y) b.) -3y-{2x+3(x-y)-[2x-3(x-y)]} c.) 2x-{-[9x-y)-2(x+y)]-3x+y Help please! :(

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

(a) 3x - (2x + 3) + 3(x - 2y) -- distribute through the parenthesis 3x - 2x - 3 + 3x - 6y (combine like terms) 4x - 6y - 3 (b) -3y -(2x + 3(x - y) - 2[2x - 3(x - y)] -3y - (2x + 3x - 3y - 2[2x - 3x + 3y] -3y - 2x - 3x + 3y -2[-x + 3y] -5x -2(x + 3y) -5x -2x - 6y -7x - 6y (c) 2x - (-[9x - y) -2(x + y)]-3x + y 2x -(19x + y ) -2x - 2y)] -3x + y 2x -(19x + y + 2x + 2y) - 3x + y 2x -19x - y - 2x -2y - 3x + y 2x - 19x - 3x -2y 20x - 2y I am not sure about b and c.....I am not the best at absolute values

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

@whpalmer4 ....can you check and see if these are correct ...please

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

@jim_thompson5910 .....are these correct ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

a) is correct, but b) is not

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

awww....I screwed up again

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Everything in the absolute value turns positive....doesn't it ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

-3y-{2x+3(x-y)-[2x-3(x-y)]} -3y-{2x+3(x-y)-[2x-3x+3y]} -3y-{2x+3(x-y)-2x+3x-3y} -3y-{2x+3x-3y-2x+3x-3y} -3y-{6x-6y} -3y-6x+6y -6x + 3y

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

there are no absolute value bars

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and unfortunately c) has a typo, there's an imbalance of grouping symbols

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

oh.....I understand....I thought those were absolute values...my bad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got letters a and b! Thank you soooooo much! yeah there's a typo c.) 2x-{-[9x-y)-2(x+y)]-3x+y}

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok thx for the correction

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Actually there's still an imbalance, but I think I figured out what you mean x-{-[(9x-y)-2(x+y)]-3x+y} x-{-[9x-y-2x-2y]-3x+y} x-{-[7x-3y]-3x+y} x-{-7x+3y-3x+y} x-{-10x+4y} x+10x-y 11x-y

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

wow your fast.....

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh oops typo lol

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

thx texaschic101, sometimes a bit too fast (and make typos) x-{-[(9x-y)-2(x+y)]-3x+y} x-{-[9x-y-2x-2y]-3x+y} x-{-[7x-3y]-3x+y} x-{-7x+3y-3x+y} x-{-10x+4y} x+10x-4y 11x-4y

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

jim is good...don't you agree bottled thoughts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yo're really really fast. Thank you so much you two fror helping meeee! I owe you :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*You're

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I only got 1......lol....jim deserves the medal

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

lol it's fine either way, and thx for the compliments

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

it is what you deserve.....many,many,many compliments

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I appreciate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think thre's another typo in letter c. It's supposed to be 2x right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

in the final answer you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, the given

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

where

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh i see now

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

not sure how I missed that, let me fix that too

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

2x-{-[(9x-y)-2(x+y)]-3x+y} 2x-{-[9x-y-2x-2y]-3x+y} 2x-{-[7x-3y]-3x+y} 2x-{-7x+3y-3x+y} 2x-{-10x+4y} 2x+10x-4y 12x-4y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Weeeeee! Thanks agaaaaaaain! Math genius :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

lol thx, and you're welcome glad to be of help
