I'll give medal! Can someone explain what this means?

OpenStudy (littlenugget):

Mayan math uses a base 20. The number in the second position is twenty times the first position. The number in the third position is twenty times the second position, and 400 times the first position. This makes it easy to do arithmetic with very large numbers.

OpenStudy (littlenugget):

Example: ** = 7 x 20 = 140 + 5 = 145 ______ 5 x 1

OpenStudy (littlenugget):

I don't understand what it's trying to say =(
