OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

Find the value of the discriminant and describe the number and type of roots. 3x2 - 8x + 2 = 0

OpenStudy (uri):

Quadraticc :P

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

6 and 2??????

OpenStudy (uri):

6 and 2? :O

OpenStudy (rane):

4 and 2

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

i was adding

OpenStudy (rane):

is u times 4 * -2 = -8 and then if u add 4 + -2 = 2

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

i see

OpenStudy (rane):

dw:1373104904068:dw

OpenStudy (rane):

so your roots r -4 and 2

OpenStudy (rane):

did u understand this @jazzyfa30

OpenStudy (uri):

Discriminant of Quadratic formula is under root b^2 -4ac

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

yes

OpenStudy (rane):

k :)

OpenStudy (uri):

a :3 b:-8 c:2

OpenStudy (uri):

Put the values in that and solve it to find the discriminant.

OpenStudy (rane):

yeah u can find the discriminant using the quadratic formula. uri is right

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

ummmm uri whats the formula

OpenStudy (rane):

its on the top

OpenStudy (rane):

discriminant= b² − 4ac

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

b^2 -4ac -8^2-4(3)(2) -8^2-24 64-24 =40

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

??????

OpenStudy (rane):

u r wrong

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

awwwwwww

OpenStudy (rane):

dw:1373105417990:dw

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

how??????

OpenStudy (rane):

wht do u mean how?

OpenStudy (rane):

i solved it in detailed

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

i know that i mean what did i get wrong i thought you are suppose to multiply 4(3)(2) all at th same time

OpenStudy (uri):

@jazzyfa30 a =3 b=-8 c =2 Alright? And the formula for dicriminant is b2 -4ac B is 8 so (8)2 - 4 then a =3 so (3) and c is 2 so (2) That is -8^2 -4(3)(2) then -(8)^2 =64 -4*3*2 So,64 -24 40 is the answer.

OpenStudy (rane):

dw:1373106142122:dw

OpenStudy (rane):

dont u guys have calculators ?

OpenStudy (uri):

Rane you're doing it wrong,-8^2 =64 not -64 because - 8 x-8 =64.

OpenStudy (rane):

@uri -8^2 = -64 not 64

OpenStudy (rane):

use your calculator if u arent sure

OpenStudy (rane):

the answer is -88

OpenStudy (rane):

@jazzyfa30

OpenStudy (rane):

thats wht i have been saying

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

i got a +64 and i put it in the calc

OpenStudy (rane):

did u put -8^2

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

no -8*-8 its the same thing

OpenStudy (rane):

no its not @jazzyfa30

OpenStudy (rane):

thats just simple calculation guys

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

technically it is because when you square sumething you just multiply it by itself

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

but on with the Q please

OpenStudy (rane):

the answer is -88 use your calculator

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (uri):

Well the answer is 40,Jazzy

OpenStudy (rane):

wht?

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

but thats not an answer chose choses: D=1, two rational roots D=40, two rational roots D=-47, two complex roots D=289, rational roots D=289, irrational root D=0,one doubled root D=0,two complex root

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

thank u uri i knew i was right

OpenStudy (rane):

how do u guys get 40?

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

i did my work correctly

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

x2 - 8x +16 = 0

OpenStudy (uri):

@jazzyfa30 one question at a time,damn

OpenStudy (rane):

i know u r already wrong in the ist q' jazzy and now u want to jump to the other q'

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

lol sorry im trynna gt this ish over lol uri and gold is mine

OpenStudy (uri):

Close this thread, ask in a new one.

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

im not wrong i posted my choses and 40 was on there not -88

OpenStudy (rane):

well how did u get 40 then?
