OpenStudy (anonymous):

if a = -11 and b = 3 then what is a div b and a mod b

OpenStudy (rane):

whts div? division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to be honest i do not know. either it's divides..or divided by..i don't know what that abbreviation means

OpenStudy (rane):

so it is to do with division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. since the one below is modulo, i would assume div is related to division. just which is the problem

OpenStudy (rane):

then just divide a by b |dw:1373105810136:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think div meants division but the result must be a entire number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah yes. i remember now. div is the whole number and mod is the remainder. right?

OpenStudy (rane):

well i have given the entire no' and is u round off

OpenStudy (rane):

yes u r right @xlegendx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but this is all assuming div means divided by. what about *if* div means -11 divides 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would be the result of that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it is -3 and -11mod 3 = -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that makes sense. thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i remember that it is use in programming

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can do that in programming? taking the mod of smaller numbers i mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is an operator in programing languages

OpenStudy (rane):

sorry i just had to solve another q'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant i know it's possible for programs to take the mod of things like 11mod3 but i didnt think it's possible to program it to answer 3mod11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

frankly, i never tried it.
