What properties of sound determine the volume of sound? Is this affected by the motion of the sound source?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That would be 'amplitude' of the sound wave. I don't think motion of any sort changes the amplitude.

OpenStudy (souvik):

i think some energy is absorbed by wall, trees etc..so may be a change in amplitude..

Thanks guys :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Volume or loudness is proportional to intensity. Intensity is proportional to square of amplitude.
