In exam number two, regarding the last question about binary stars, why is it that we add the two equations to determine their orbital period?

Never mind, I've thought it through for a bit and it makes sense now. In my mind I thought we would be doubling the period, but we are really just combining the two equations to create an easily manageable solution for T.
