OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

Choose the correct description of the graph of the inequality -5x ≥ 25

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

Open circle on -5, shading to the left. Closed circle on -5, shading to the left. Open circle on 5, shading to the right. Closed circle on 5, shading to the right.

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

do you know what the final inequality would like?

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

?

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

not really

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

solve for x

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

do you know how?

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

um...x=-5

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

yes, now dont forget about the inequality symbol

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

or ≥

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

yeah

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

x≥-5

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

when you divide over the inequality symbol it changes

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

no.....dividing by a negative changes the inequality sign

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

so opposite direction

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

so...\[x \le -5\]

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

correct

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

yes

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

If the problem has an equal sign, do you know what that means ?

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

um ...no

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

if it has an equal sign, it means it will be a closed circle

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

but it doesn't have an equal sign

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

the line underneath the greater or less than sign

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

that line is an equal sign

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

|dw:1373163498800:dw|

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

is less than or equal to

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

less then shades to the left and greater then shades to the right

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you have less then or equal to

OpenStudy (rmrjr22):

yup there it is right there.

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

closed circle

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

yes

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

so Closed circle on -5, shading to the left.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

correct

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

please give the medal to rmrjr....I kind of stepped in on his problem

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

okayyy

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

thanks

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

do you understand about the inequalities now ? Quick lesson.....if it contains an equal sign, it is a closed circle, if not, it is an open circle. Less then means shading to the left and greater then means shading to the right

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

yes yes i got it now

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

if your inequality sign has a line under it, that line means equal

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

okay

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

good deal :)
