hi,can u plz help me understand the flow of electric charge from a negatively charged body attached to the earth? Tanx

OpenStudy (festinger):

Let's assume that the negatively charged body attached to the earth is an insulator. Then, even if I gave it an conducting path to the Earth, the charges will stay put! These charges are strongly bound to the body. But when it's a conductor, and I attach it to the ground with a conductor, then charges will flow. The negative charge flows to the Earth to reach a state called equipotential, that is, both of them will have the same voltage.
