How to solve this problem.. Two blocks rest on a frictionless horizontal surface. They are connected by 3 massless strings and 2 frictionless, massless pulleys as shown above. A force F is applied to block 1. What is the resulting acceleration of block 1?

OpenStudy (souvik):

the length of the string is not going to change...we use this to find the acceleration of the puleys..

OpenStudy (souvik):

due to the force...the position of two pulleys will change but the length of the string remained unchanged...

OpenStudy (jh3power):

thanks a lot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Souvik, you made a mistake! While conserving the length, you changed every point to its new position (except A which is fixed). But u did not change F to F'.
