x: 18= 6^x+5

hartnn (hartnn):

do you know logarithms ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really, i'm kind of having trouble with log

hartnn (hartnn):

is it \(18 = 6^x+5\) or \(\large 18 = 6^{x+5}\) ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[18=6^{x+5}\]

hartnn (hartnn):

ok, you can take log on both sides from the very 1st step, left will be log 18 you need to simplify the right side, \(\log 6^{x+5}\) by the property of log that \(\log a^b=b\log a\) try ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

log18= x+5 log 6

OpenStudy (souvik):

now divide both side by log 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got X= log 3-5

OpenStudy (souvik):

log 3?how?

OpenStudy (souvik):

log 18/log 6 is not equal to log 3 !

OpenStudy (souvik):

so your answer is x=(log 18/log 6) - 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay got it. thank you for your help!

OpenStudy (souvik):

my pleasure...
