A concession stand vendor counts the money in the register.After a 1h,it has $42.75.After 5h it has $260.75.How much will be in the register at the end of an 8-hour shift? Do i use y=kx

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

260.75 - 42.75 = 218....218 was made in 4 hours. @primeralph ...can you help.....not sure about this one

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

@satellite73 ....help please

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

@robtobey ...help please

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

@phi ....help

OpenStudy (phi):

you did good. 218 make in 4 hours how much more in the next 4 hours ?

OpenStudy (phi):

make that the next 3 hours...

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

but if you go by that....then 218/4 =54.50 per hour and that doesn't work because he made 42.75 the 1st hr

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

does that make sense ?

OpenStudy (phi):

all we can do is estimate. Exactly how is not clear. (in other words, this seems like a bad question) if we had the choices, we might be able to figure out what the questioner was thinking in their pointy head.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

lol......pointy head...good one.....it just seems like the vendor is not making the same amount of money each hour

OpenStudy (phi):

but my best guess is to fit a line through the two points (1,42.75) and (5,260.75) find the equation of the line, and then find the y value for x=8

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

the questioner can do that.....thanks for the help....I was kinda lost on this one
