Which of the following best describes the relationship between line x and line y? Line x passes through (–3, –5) and (–7, –3). Line y passes through (4, 7) and (12, 3). A. neither perpendicular nor parallel B. perpendicular C. parallel D. They are the same line.

Can anybody please help?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

I'd get the lines equation first

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

then you can compare them, by looking at their slopes

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

come to think, you may just be able to do it by just getting the slopes only anyway

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so, there, get the slopes and compare :), that'd tell you if they're perpendicular or parallel or whatever else

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for line x I got 2/-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for line y I got -4/8

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ok, so 2/-4 => -1/2 -4/8 => -1/2 low and behold, they have the same slope! perpendicular lines have the same slope, so

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

bah, parallel lines that is

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

not perpendicular parallel lines have the same slope, and these 2 do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer would be C? @jdoe0001

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, they have the same slope, they're parallel with each other

THANKS:D
