Help me solve this equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt 17x - \sqrt 6 =\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=x

OpenStudy (souvik):

add square root 6 to both sides first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh wait I typed it completely wrong :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hang on I'm going to fix it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{17x - 60} = x\] there we go

OpenStudy (souvik):

square both sides first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now it's \[17x -60 = x^2\] right?

OpenStudy (souvik):

yes...now get all terms in one side and try to factor it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you factor? lol I missed this entire lesson cuz I was sick

OpenStudy (souvik):

okay then get all the terms in one side

OpenStudy (souvik):

\[x ^{2}-17x+60\] now find 2 numbers which adds to -17 and multiplied to 60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My wifi is really bad.. sorry this is taking forever. I got: (x-5)(x-12)

OpenStudy (souvik):

right...now (x-5)(x-12)=0 or (x-5)=0 or x=5 and (x-12)=0 or x=12 so your answer is x=12,5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh thank you :) You helped a ton :)

OpenStudy (souvik):

you are welcome...........:)
