\(\bf\Huge Welcome~to~\color{#00B4ff}{Open}\color{#7cc517}{Study}~!!!\) Potential energy is energy stored in an object. Melting chocolate, boiling water and frying bacon are examples where you put energy IN Burning gasoline is an example where you get energy OUT. The gasoline has potential energy. This energy has the potential to do work. In this gas it's burning so it gives off heat. You can use this heat to do something (like melting chocolate or boiling water). So C is a decrease in potential energy.
