find an equation of the line through (3,5) and parallel to y=4x+4 write the equation using functional notation??? please help

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The line is parallel to y = 4x + 4, so it has the same slope. What is the slope of y = 4x + 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slope is 4 isnt it?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct. Your answer will also have to have slope 4, so you can write y = 4x + b To find b, just substitute x and y with 3 and 5, respectively, and solve for b. Then remember to write the function as f(x) = mx + b with the appropriate values of m and b.
