URGENT!!!! FRIENDS PLS HELP what is the indicator used for and what happens to it when it is used?

thomaster (thomaster):

The indicator used for what?

OpenStudy (rane):

thats my q' thom

OpenStudy (rane):

what an indicator used for?

thomaster (thomaster):

Oh indicators in general. We use them to indicate something in a solution or mixture. Like iodine, when you add a drop of iodine to a solution that contains starch, the iodine will react with starch and the solution will become purple. The solution will not become purple when there's no stach. So iodine is an indicator for starch.

OpenStudy (rane):

and what happens to the indicator when it is used?

thomaster (thomaster):

It reacts with the compound/element that needs to be indicated. So you probably can't use both again.

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

Indicator is a substance which shows color change with respect to the PH of solution. this happens bcoz of change in PH causes change of structure of molecule. Most of the indicators are dyes like methylene blue , phenophthaleien etc. For example phenophthelin shows pink color above 8.2 pH and colorless below 8.2.pH then based on its color u can find out the pH of solution. and also end point of the reaction. i hope u got it :)

OpenStudy (rane):

thanks to both of u :)

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

you are welcome :)

OpenStudy (rane):

what colour would universal indicator be if it was placed in a concentrated strong acid & a neutral solution ?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

red:)

OpenStudy (rane):

for which one

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

what do u mean by universal indicator :)

OpenStudy (rane):

idk this is wht the q' asks

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

pH range Description Colour 3< Strong acid Red 3-6 Acid Orange/ Yellow 7 Neutral Green 8-11 alkali Blue > 11 Strong alkali Violet/Purple universal indicator colors LOL :)

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

concentrated strong acid & a neutral solution gives what pH

OpenStudy (rane):

thanks

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

u are welcome LOL :)

OpenStudy (rane):

khush

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

haaa baaaa baaa kusha DIL kushaaa
