What are the functions of "Ambassadors" in Openstudy ? Just curious!

thomaster (thomaster):

They welcome and guide newcomers through the site, introducing them to the code of conduct, helping them learn how to navigate as well as how to make friends.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But that is what "moderators" do as well. No? Sorry if i am wrong!

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Incorrect, @diwaker. The ambassador's abilities are limited compared to that of a moderator. The moderators have a very specific role, to make sure that when people don't follow the Code of Conduct, they'll get suspended.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmmm.. all right, thanks!

OpenStudy (ja1):

I see it this way (not really the "official" meaning but this is my interpretation) ambassadors make users feel welcome to the site, if anyone has issues on navigating it we help, someone new comes on, we welcome, someone needs to know anything (kind of like you are doing) we hep them, but I also think ambassadors should try to keep the peace on OS, I see us more as guidance counselors, like @dumbsearch2 we have no power whatsoever just like guidance counselors don't but we try to make users get along better in terms of fighting, but mods are the ones who dish out the punishment when a user goes too far, the way I see it, we try to calm the situation but mods are the ones with the final word on the verdict of the user.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

@JA1 "like @dumbsearch2" >.< As If I was a normal person.....

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

haha very well explained though @JA1 I gave you a medal :)

OpenStudy (ja1):

Oh I meant to put "like dumbsearch SAID" xD I forgot it I guess, but anyways that explanation is not accepted by Everyone so I cannot say it is the "Official" meaning.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

So basically, the amby don't have any particular thing that a normal user doesn't have. Its just a spirit of mind: a welcoming spirit, a good user who follows the rules. You can apply to have the "A" and be called an amby, but in truth, It's just a way to express your joy to use this site and spreading that joy to others. Anyone can have the amby spirit.

OpenStudy (ja1):

^Honestly It's harder once you get the "A" because some people let it get to their heads, @dumbsearch2 if that ever happens to me, kill me please <_<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also tell me who are "admins" .They are frequently mentioned in several questions in this section. Are they also some sort of special users? I have never seen one online actually! Like in one question someone had asked how to be a moderator. It was replied that admins choose expert people from normal users and make them moderators.

thomaster (thomaster):

Admins (administrators) are the people who actually work at OpenStudy. They can do the same as moderators and more. And it's true that they choose and make new moderators. You won't recognize them because they look just like moderators. Examples of admins are @Preetha and @BostonBlue, others are shadowfiend, polesapart, ashwinram, cshalvey and more (don't know if they're still active). You can find them on the about us page: http://openstudy.com/about-us

Thanks for the help! Very much appreciated!

Another great reply by @thomaster xD
