4(x^2-12x+20) - 3(x^2-2x+1) ? polynomials

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

Just open the brackets and combine the like terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how? distribute first the 4 and 3 first?

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

Yup. Multiply 4 with all the terms of first bracket and 3 with all terms of second bracket.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4x^2-12x+20) - (3x^2-6x+3) here now. what's next step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2-6x+23 . here's my answer is it correct?

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

nah thats not correct.. (4x^2-12x+20) - (3x^2-6x+3) can be written as 4x^2 - 12x + 20 - 3x^2 + 6x - 3..

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

the first two terms of your answer are right.. it would be +17 instead of +23..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it should be 17 not 23?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how about this one . (3x^2+x+1) + (2x^2-3x-5)
