charles is entering a bake-off and wants to make miniature pies. he's going to need 2.5 cups of flour for the decorative lacing crusts and 1.5 cups of flour for each individual pie. each contestant is required to use 4, but no more than 10 cups of flour. how many miniature pies can he make?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No.

OpenStudy (phi):

it sounds a bit unclear, but I assume they mean they use 2.5 cups of flour and then 1.5 cups per pie total flour used for x pies is 2.5 + 1.5x this has to be 4 or more and less than or equal to 10 4 ≤ 2.5 +1.5x ≤ 10 solve for x... you get a range of numbers

oh wow... that's what i did earlier, but i was getting a weird number ! i guess i was doing something wrong.. thanks @phi !! much appreciated
