"34 * 3x * 27 - 5 = 54 - 3 + 12 what is x?" You combine like term. So 54 -3 + 12 = 51 + 12 = 63 So now we have 34 * 3x * 27 -5 = 63 Comebine like terms on the left. 34 * 27 -5 = 913. So now we have 3x * 913 = 63 We want to do reverse order of operation to find x. So we must get rid of 913. The opposite of multiplication is division. So you divide 913 by something to cancel out. The only way for 913 to cancel out is to divide both side by 913. 913/913 = 1 (Cancel out) 63/913 = ~.069 Now we have 3x = .069 The coefficient, 3x, can be written as 3 * x. We want x by itself. So we must get rid of 3. The opposite of multiplication is division, like I said before. So, 3x/3 = x .069/3 = .023. So x ≈ .023.
