What does an antioxidant do for the human body?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Antioxidant help to repair and prevent damage caused oxidation reactions in the body. Oxidation reactions involve the transfer of electrons form one atom or molecule to another. This can produce free agents which can cause cellular damage in the body. Antioxidant prevent damaging oxidations by receiving the electrons themselves. This results in the formation of non-damaging molecules. Basically in simple terms it removes cell waste, cleans and nourishes the body.
