lfredo has $2.45 in nickels and quarters. If he has 17 coins in all, how many of each does he have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let n=amount of nickels. Then 17-n=amount of quarters. A nickel is worth 5 cents and a quarter is worth 25 cents. They total 245 cents. So: \[5n + 25(17-n) = 245\]Now, try solving this equation for n to figure out how many nickels he has.
