Dave found 16 coins on the sidewalk. They were made up of quarters and nickels. If Dave found $1.80, how many nickels were there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 quarters = 1.25 11 nickels = .55 1.80. 16 coins c: So 11 nickels (:

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well you know there are 16 coins total and they are quarters and nickels so q + n = 16 each quarter is worth .25 and each nickel worth .05 and this totals 1.80 so .25q + .05n = 1.80 can you solve this system of equations?
