Select the correct properties of slope below. Multiple Response. A.The slope of a line is always positive B.The slope of a line which moves up from left to right is positive. C.Some lines have no slope . D.A steep line has a negative slope. E.If two lines have the same slope then they are the same line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A is false B is true C is true D is false E is false

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

A) false slope of course is not always positive so the first one fails B) true going up from left to right is positive. C) true/false some lines have no slope, this could be a trick question. example x=3 is a lines going up and down, but is not a function and this has slope undefined if we do not consider this a line, then all lines have a slope. D) false steepness has nothing to do with the sign of the slope E) false y=x+1 and y=x have same slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not sure about C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmmmmnm *-_-

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

both answers could work, there are many things it depends on. 1) does you teacher consider vertical lines to be lines 2) does you teacher consider infinity to be a real extended number or not ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its just a practice question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

I know, just understand why I have a problem with the question and you are good:)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

well I didn't know, but ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I interpret "no slope" as m=0. example: y=(0)x+3

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

hmm I don't.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

0 slope is still a slope...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes its 1

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

this is a very bad worded question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tricky

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

What about the line x = 1? slope = undefined

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

that what Im talking about

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

read up:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

slope 0 is still a slope, this is not a problem

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

its the x = that is a problem

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

imo

Directrix (directrix):

@flazingblazes @ > I interpret "no slope" as m=0. That is not the case. A vertical line has no slope. A horizontal line has a slope of 0. Because of that, my thinking on this --> C. Some lines have no slope . TRUE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice I get you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

the real answer is of course true, now what your teacher means ..... if she is talking about functions then x=1 is not a function and does not count

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Either way talk to your teacher about it, and he/she will be impressed:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks
