A triangle is formed by the x-axis, y-axis, and the line y = ax + b. If a = -b, then what is the volume of the cone generated by rotating this triangle around y-axis?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

You know the height and radius of the cone. Where are you stuck ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I know the height and the radius?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

height will be distance of origin and (0,b) radius will be distance of origin and (-b/a ,0) isn't it? :|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What does the answer come out to be?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

You didn;t understand what I said ?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

What was your figure ? (just the triangle)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't have any figure, but since the triangle is rotated around y-axis, am I right in saying that the absolute value of y-intercept is the radius and x-intercept is the radius?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

y intercept is height and x intercept is radius yes. thats what i said above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant to say x-intercept = height | y-intercept = radius However that maybe, could you tell me what is your answer?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

|dw:1373454627536:dw| it is rotated about y-axis right ? y intercept should be height ?
