If you heated a solid ionic compund and a solid covalent comound together in the same container what would happen?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ionic compounds has higher melting and boiling points than simple covalent, but solid covalent compounds imply that it is macromolecules (giant covalent structure). Macromolecules has high melting and boiling points. 1) If they are inert towards each other (not reactive towards each other), decomposition might occur due to high heat present. 2) If they are reactive towards each other, the heating provides the energy necessary to overcome the activation energy for reaction to occur.
