How does location and industrialization affect the prevalence of acid rain? I have to do this project type thing, and i'm researching about acid rain, but i can't find information on location or industrialization affecting acid rain, can someone please help?
Not all rain can be classified as acid rain. if you find the pH of rain water to be 5.5 or less than that then it is called as acid rain. It is more localized to places where industries such as thermal power plants are placed which emits SO2, CO2,and NO2. These are the primary pollutants which when interacts with the moisture in the atmosphere gets converted to corresponding acids namely sulphuric acid, carbonic acid and nitric acid which during the process of rain formation contributes to its acidity. Hence Environmentalists strongly urge the governments to have a check on Sulphur di oxide emission. Where do SO2 come to industries. Take the example of Thermal power plants. It uses coal for steam generation and subsequent generation of power, this coal carries considerable amounts of sulphur in various forms hence desulphurization of coal has to be done before the utilisation of coal for power generation I suggest you to read more from resources available in google on acid rain to get a good understanding All the best
