Do your cells use food to directly power their various functions? Explain your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cells do not use ATP to directly power their functions, they use food to create ATP. Cellular respiration is powered by glucose (food). Cellular respiration creates ATP, which then powers the various functions of the body.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Most the time proteins are "powered" by ATP, in the case where they're not they're driven to perform a task by chemical gradients.
