find area between functions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x ^{2}-4\] and \[-x ^{2}-2x\]

The zeros are -2,1 However in the answer packet, It states to split the integral from -3 to -2 and from -2 to 1 which doesnt make sense because the curves do not intersect from -3 to -2

My answer was 9. Can anyone else confirm?

@eSpeX Mind checking my work? The original answer hints say to take 2 integrals. One is from -3 to -2 and another -2 to 1. I understand the -2 to 1 but not -3 to -2

@marissalovescats Wanna help clear this up?
