This is a section of Matej's research paper about heart disease: There are many risk factors for heart disease. According to AnswersDisease.com, "Smoking is the biggest risk factor for heart attack." Matej uses quotation marks to show the direct quote he took from his source. If there weren't quotation marks around that sentence, the reader would know that Matej's information came from a different source cited later. Matej paraphrased the information rather than quoting it directly. Matej was lying about the information he found from the source. Matej's source did not give that particular information directly.
