Which of the following pairs are false cognates? vaso – vase carro – car trompeta – trumpet teléfono – telephone
The answer isn't "carro-car." We're looking for a false cognate. Not a true cognate. A "false cognate" is a pair of words that don't actually mean what they sound like. For example, "carro-car" is a TRUE cognate. The word "carro" sounds a lot like "car." And it actually DOES mean "car." That's why it's a TRUE cognate. We need to find the FALSE cognate.
instead of dising me about how its not a flse cognate why dont u answer the question smart
I don't think any of the options given are false cognates...?
A
vasso mean glass not vase
Vaso can either mean glass or vase though so it's a confusing question!
i disagree with you
becaus ei had this question before and put that answer and missed it
I also thought the answer was A, but then I looked at a dictionary. I think the definition of vase for vaso is not commonly used though so I can see how A would be right. You can see the definition here: http://www.wordreference.com/es/en/translation.asp?spen=vaso
ok i will look
i see what you mean but a is for sure the correct answer
vase in spanish is florero or jarra....vaso is cup
@BriannaMC You can't speak Spanish. At all.
yes i can ur just a jerk who cant speak spanish all u do is look up stuff online then answer peoples question oh wait thats right u never answer peoples questions all u do is critize saying wat it should and shouldnt be like people are stupid when really the only persons whos stupid is u u cartoon character looking dummy
I took Spanish for 6 years. Finished AP Spanish with an A. Really? I can't speak Spanish? I didn't call you stupid either. I explained how to get the answer, without just giving out the answer myself. I talked about true and false cognates. Because I care not only for people to get the answers. I want to help them learn too. It would be MUCH easier for me to just give people answers.
then do it and who cares if u finish ap with an A because i know plenty people that finshed with an A and only can count to ten in Spanish
really why argue about something that has already been solved it is just stupid
u now what ur right milik why argue to an idoit thanks
welcome
@InYourHead I had a question similar to this and your explanation helped me figure out which one was the false cognate. Thank you!
