Do all polynomials have atleast one minimum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

True or False?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

False?

OpenStudy (queelius):

I guess it depends on what you mean by minimum. Do you mean a local minimum? And are we counting negative infinity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like Polynomial's.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You mean a minimum y value?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Remember, every non-vertical and non-horizontal staright line is a polynomial. They have no minimum and no maximum.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im went with False.

OpenStudy (queelius):

@mathstudent Why exclude vertical lines?

OpenStudy (queelius):

x = 1 is not polynomial? :)

OpenStudy (queelius):

I guess not.

OpenStudy (queelius):

Ok, I answered my own question.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct. Not all polynomials have a minimum value.
