1. x – 3 > –9 2. –2x + 1 ≤ –11 3. 10 < –3x + 1 4. 2(x + 5) > 8x – 8 5. –2(x – 3) ≥ 5 – (x + 3)
solve these inequalities
just treat the inequalities like equal signs, and solve for x The ONLY rule you have to remember is that if you divide or multiply by a negative number you must flip the inequality sign For Example: 3 < x If I multiply both sides by a -1 it becomes: -3 > -x
Do you follow?
This is just very basic algebra you just have to remember the rule I posted above and you should be able to plug and chug through these
i just want the work for it so i can do it step by step looking at the work. i prefer to work independently... thanks :)
work and answer
if you dont want to give me that answer just give me the work and where the answer is supposed to go just write "answer"
I will give you an example of one of these problems solved you can use this for any inequality (except for ones with absolute values those are a bit different) Example 1: 3 + x > 3 write it as an equality 3 + x = 3 3 - 3 + x = 3 - 3 x = 0 Return the inequality -> Ask yourself did I multiply or divide both sides of the inequality by a negative -> No -> Do not flip the inequality Answer: x > 3 Example 2: -3x + 4 < 2 write it as an equality -3x + 4 = 2 -3x + 4 - 4 = 2 - 4 -3x = -2 -3x/-3 = -2/-3 x = -2/-3 x = 2/3 Return Inequality -> Ask yourself did I multiply or divide both sides of the inequality by a negative -> Yes -> flip the inequality Answer: x > 2/3
from these examples you should know how to solve inequalities, I trust that you know how to apply elementary algebra rules, so me showing you have to solve all the problems above is pointless. You only need to apply the one rule I showed you
This isn't an answer site btw if you want to learn I can teach, if you just want someone to do you work try yahoo answers but know that you are only hurting yourself.
writing them as an inequality is not really a necessary or correct step in solving these but I just wanted to demonstrate that you can treat equalities exactly the same as inequalities.
