How do the tension of the cord and the force of gravity affect a pendulum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Period of pendulum = 2pi sqrt (L / g) g affects the period of the pendulum inversely L, which is affected by T (if T is increased, L will decrease), will thus be affected

i don't understand how you said tension affects the pendulum Tension depends on the mass of the bob right? if the bob has more mass, more weight and thus tension would be higher.. how would tension depend on the LENGTH OF THE STRING??.. and since the period is independent of Mass of the bob, i believe the period is independent of the tension as well..
