what reflexive property and whats transitive property? help please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

reflexive property (keyword: reflect) means that something is equal to itself. i.e. a = a transitive property (keyword: transition) means that if something is equal to another, and that is equal to some other thing, then they are all equal. ie a = b and b = c then a = c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! :) love the username lol

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

reflexive property: x+7=7+x transitive property: if a=b and b=c, then a=c

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

these are some examples so you can get the idea. Best of luck!!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would x*y*z=y*x*z be?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

well, i don't know the values of x, y, and z, but i know that the two answer would be equal to each other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so transitive property?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

however, that is a different property that you just wrote out.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

let me give you a quick example of the transitive property if 5+3=6+2, and 5+3=8, then 6+2=8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the choices are a. distributve property b. transitive property c. associative property of mult. d. communitive property of mult

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and also what would ab=ab be?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

that would the commutative property of multiplication for the above, and for the question that you just posted, ab=ab would be the reflexive property

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thxs! mind helping for a few more?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

sure, no problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok hold on might take a sec to type it out!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which of the following describes the correct process for solving the equation 2x+6=22 and arrives at the correct solution? A. divide both sides by 6 and add 2. the solution would be x=8 b. add 6 to both sides and then divide by 2. solution would be x=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c. subract 6 from both sides and then divide by 2. the solution is x=8 d. subtract 6 from both sides of the equation and then divide by 22. solution would be x=16

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

hold on a sec. my computer is slow :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

you would do C. let me demonstrate

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

2x+6=22 -6 -6 2x=16 /2 /2 x=8

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

i hope that makes sense! :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok! :) heres another one! :) a car dealer offers you two deals on a car that costs $16,000. please calculate the monthly payment, given these two payment options the car dealer is offering. payment one: you can finance the car for 60 months with no interest if you make 3,000 vdown payment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

payment two is you can finance the car for 72 months ( 6 years) with 1% simple annual and no down payment. ( to calaculate simple annual interest use the formula intrest= princple *rates* time (in years). add the amount of interst to the rice of the car)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which monthly payment amount is lower? please explain how you arrived at the answer and show all work for each option

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the question haha :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

oh god ok here i go

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha thank you :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

wait, will the 3,000 dollar down payment take away from the total balance of 16000?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which do u want me to repeat?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

hold on i actually think i have it :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

so how much are the car payments without interest?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yaaay :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can finance the car for 60 months with no interest if you make a 3,000 down payment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or! you can finance the car for 75 months (6 years) with 1% simple annual intersest and no down payment

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

just by using deductive reasoning, it would be cheaper to finance the car for 60 months with the 3,000 dollar down payment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you work that out? sorry haha i hve to explain it

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

you calculate the interest with the formula and it comes out to 960 a month. however, because the payment streches to 6 years instead of 5 years in choice one, it ultimately become more expensive

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

in other words, it is cheaper to stick with option one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahaha thank you so much :) i have sooooo much hw tonight :P

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

wow i bet im glad i could help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!!!

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

would you care to send me a medal for all my trouble xD just click on the best response button next to ma name. Its been nice working with u :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

@ashleyjade

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mind helping for 3 more? haha there shorter i promise! :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

ah ok and i also took care of your other question xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. solve for x: 3(x+1) = -2(x-1)-4 2. solve for x: -3(x+3) = -3(x+1)-5 3. create your own two step equation with all real numbers as the solution. show the steps to solving the equation to prove the solution all real nubers

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

i think we can set the record for longest question ever! Anyhow, lets solve this :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahahaha right :) thank you so much though!

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

3(x+1)=-2(x-1)-4 3x+3=-2x+2-4 3x+3=-2x-2 +2x-3 +2x-3 5x=-5 x=-1

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

that was the first one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got that to! :) thank ya :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

can you repeat the second one? its so far up i cant see it lol :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea! -3(x+3) = -3(x+1) -5

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

awesome -3(x+3)=-3(x+1)-5 -3x-9=-3x-3-5 -3x-9=-3x-8 +3x +9 +3x +9 0=1 undefined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got that to! ill repeat the last one if u need it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

*phew* that was hard work *coughcough* :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahaha thank u! :) last one? want me to repeat it?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

create your own two step equation with all real numbers as the solution. show the steps to solving the equation to prove the solution all real numbers.
