convert pentane to 1-tritio-1-butyne

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess tritio here is the isotope of hydrogen.. is this so?

i guess i have a scheme for this... you have an alkane and you need an alkyne from the alkane and that too with one less carbon atom. 1) conert your alkane to an alkene. by photochemical halogenation, you will get a mixture of alkylhalides, convert the terminal alkyl halide to an alcohol and then to alkene. 2) ozonolysis of the alkene will give you butanal. reducing the aldehyde to an alcohol by the held of hydride giving groups like LiAlH4 or use LiAlT4 ( T = tritium). 3) you will have a termial alcohol after step 2 4) convert the alcohol to alkene 5) do the bromination of alkene \ you will get 1,2 dibromo compond 6) converting this dibromo compound to an alkene is quite easy i think.. i hope this helps
