Which of the following activities are examples of data gathering? Check all that apply. A. Finding the mean weight of heart-disease patients in a study B. Measuring the DCH (diameter chest-high) of 200 trees in a forest C. Counting the votes in an election to determine the next mayor D. Asking 500 telephone respondents what their favorite radio station is E. Making a pie chart showing the kinds of cars owned by people in a sample of 1000
wht do u think?
wel.., i think b would be plausible, but im really confused.
i don't want the answers, I want to learn
if you can help me, I'd love it. :)
well to me, its A, B , E becoz in these u r gathering data. where as in C, D u have already gathered data
LOL... I'm sorry, I'm not stupid... I saw that same reply on a question previously posted that doesn't even correlate with the answer suggestions in this question. ^_^
Please... Don't lie to me..
y would i lie?
it's BCD...
how is it CD
they show the gathering of Data... how is it A,B, and E?
becoz they r the only ones u r gathering data
I would not include A A. Finding the mean weight of heart-disease patients in a study because the data has already been gathered and somebody is performing calculations on the data. Finding a mean is not data gathering.
SEE!
y not @Directrix
@Directrix is my choice correct?
^_^ see RANE :)
ok as u wish bt i still dont know y not A
This is a hard question. sorry. :( >_<
i chose BCD, tell me if im right or wrong @kropot72
At least ten variations of this problem are already on OpenStudy. The question is somewhat confusing.
yeah, any possible ideas of what you think it might be? My choices are BCD @Directrix Im just nervous, I wanna know if you think the same.
So far, I feel confident that this B) Measuring the DCH (diameter chest-high) of 200 trees in a forest is an example of data gathering. I am still thinking about the other options.
Should I take the chance and go with BCD?
@HELPFOARMYLUV123 Let's allow time for kropot72 to give a reply.
Oh okay. Sorry.
Data is information obtained from a survey, an experiment or an investigation. To my mind choices B and D specifically relate to the action of gathering data. Choices A, C and E deal with the analysis of data. Choices A, C and E do not mention the data gathering process.
isn't D like a survey?
D is the data-gathering part of a survey. The analysis comes later.
Oh my goodness! Wow... You made me look like foolish haha I was doubting it. :) thanks I hope this works :)
but what about C, that is like a survey too isn't it?
Sorry for questioning.
No to C) Counting the votes in an election to determine the next mayor Here, we did not collect the data. We are just sorting the ballots to see who got the most votes. I mean, that's the way I'm looking at it. I did not give the people ballots and ask for their votes so I did not collect the data.
Very nice :)
