State the horizontal asymptote of the rational function. f(x)= x+9/x^2+8x+8

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

There is no horizontal asymptote as stated. If you mean f(x) = (x+9)/(x^2+8x+8), then there is a horizontal asymptote. Do you see the difference?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

keep in mind that horizontal asymptotes in rationals occur when the numerator and denominator degrees are the same, or the denominator is greater when the denominator is greater, then there's only 1 horizontal asymptote, at y=0
