Identify the conic section. If it is a parabola, give the vertex. If it is a circle, give the center and radius. If it is an ellipse or a hyperbola, give the center and foci. x^2+y^2+10x+4y=7 A. circle; center (–5, –2); radius = 36 B. circle; center (5, 2); radius = 6 C. circle; center (–5, –2); radius = 6 D. circle; center (5, 2); radius = 36

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

x^2+y^2+10x+4y=7 ^ "x" and "y" terms are POSITIVE, that's a dead giveaway is an ellipse, or a circle, which is really just a round ellipse anyway :)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, I should say the SQUARED "x" and "y" are POSITIVE, thus

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

do you know what a "perfect square trinomial" is?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

or have you done "completing the square"
