Problem set 2 2A-1, does anyone know what "(2)" refers to in the question?

Apparently this problem set has been used in a different course for which a numbered list of equations or formulas was provided. From the context here, (2) would appear to be the general formula for linear approximation, but using 'a' for the base value instead of 'x sub 0' so it would look like this:\[f(x)\approx f(a)+f'(a)(x-a)\]You're asked to solve the problem using this formula and also using basic approximation formulas (i.e. the one for (1+x) raised to a power).
