The bigger rectangle has dimensions of 14 and 15. You're looking for the area of the shaded rectangle. The area of that rectangle is equal to its base times its height. Since the big rectangle has a base of 15, and the base of the shaded region is 4 shorter, it's base is (15-4). Similarly, its height is 6 shorter than 14, or (14-6). Multiply these together to get the area.
